According to troopers, the crash happened near the Avondale Boulevard exit around 9:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a car that was rear-ended by another vehicle. Investigators say both drivers got out of their cars and were standing in the middle of the lane when they were hit by a third car. One driver died at the scene, while the driver of the third vehicle was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. It’s unclear if the second victim was hurt.

At this time, detectives are still working to determine what led up to the crash and have not said if speed or impairment are possible factors. The freeway was closed for several hours until the early morning.
