2024 San Joaquin Asparagus Festival kicks off. Here's what to know
The 2024 San Joaquin Asparagus Festival kicks off this weekend for the 38th year in Stockton.
The festival held at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds goes from noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, but ends at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Here’s what to know about this year's festival:
What is there to do?
Stroll down the vendor fair to snack on $12 deep-fried asparagus and $4 asparagus ice cream. Other attractions include:
- Cooking demonstrations
- Carnival rides and games
- Live music
- $10 monster truck rides
- A petting zoo
- Free mini trackless train rides
- More than 250 vendors
- And the asparagus queen and princess pageant.
How much does admission cost?
Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for kids ages 6 to 17, seniors ages 65 and older and military ID holders. Kids ages 5 and under enter free.
How much are carnival rides?
An unlimited ride wristband costs $35, and individual ride credits are $1. On average, a ride takes four to seven ride credits.
How do I get discount tickets?
Starting March 18, Local Save Mart and Lucky Supermarkets will offer discount tickets at the register. Discount unlimited ride wristbands will cost $25.
How much is parking?
Onsite parking is $10 for cars and $5 for motorcycles and is cash-only.
What is the new bag policy?
Starting this year the festival is implementing a clear bag policy, meaning only bags made of see-through material like plastic or vinyl, not exceeding a size of 12 by 6 by 12 inches, will be allowed inside. However, there are exceptions for diaper bags, medical-related bags and clutch handbags following staff inspections.
Are pets allowed?
No, but service animals are allowed.
What's the forecast?
KCRA 3 Meteorologist Tamara Berg says Friday is her favorite day for peak weather conditions. Showers are in the forecast for Saturday but Berg says she doesn't think all of the day will be wet. Sunday will have partly cloudy skies.
