TEXARKANA, Ark. – Instead of saying, “Welcome to TASD,” newly hired Texarkana Arkansas School District Superintendent Lloyd Jackson, is told, “Welcome back to TASD.”

Jackson, a 1998 graduate of Arkansas High School, was hired on Thursday and introduced at a news conference on Friday.

Jackson is the district’s first African American superintendent in its history, and he succeeds Becky Kesler, who will be retiring at the end of 2024.

His current job is the advancement and chief fundraising officer at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The new superintendent signed a three-year contract effective July 1, which includes an annual salary of $190,000 and a $500 monthly car allowance.

Jackson is tasked with improving reading in the district and increasing graduation rates.
