Arkansas State Police (ASP), responding to a request from the Scott County Sheriff's Office, has opened an investigation into a homicide incident that took place in Waldron on Wednesday.ASP said following a call received around 5:45 p.m., SCSO deputies arrived at a residence on Arkansas Highway 250 in Waldron, discovering Russell Lewellen, 69, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.ASP said emergency medical services transported Lewellen to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.In connection with the incident, SCSO apprehended a 34-year-old Waldron resident, who has been charged with first-degree murder, according to ASP. The suspect is currently in custody at the Scott County Detention Center under the jurisdiction of ASP. His identity has not yet been released.ASP said Lewellen's remains will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the cause of death.
