Live Oak School District superintendent resigns
In a letter addressed to parents and students, the current superintendent for the Live Oak School District announced her resignation on Friday.
Dr. Daisy Morales wrote, "It is with a mixture of sadness and resolve that I announced my decision to resign from my position as Superinutednde of the Live Oak School District, effective June 30, 2024."
She made this announcement on the same day pink slips were supposed to be sent out to many school district employees to avoid a state takeover. Last week, the decision was made to terminate around 40 jobs to resolve a $2.9 million deficit.

Morales said in her remaining months she will be leaving with integrity and will attempt to mend as many bridges as she can. She hopes to facilitate a smooth transition and address any outstanding concerns.
"Upon reflecting on my time here, I acknowledge my imperfections. Errors were made with the most recent being an avoidable negative budget certification that led to unnecessary stress and hardship for many. I apologize for this," Morales said.
