Pickle's Place, the famous restaurant in Arco, Idaho, recently underwent renovations.

To better serve its growing customer base, the business stays closed for two or three weeks in the winter to work on upgrades and repairs.

This helps accommodate the rising number of visitors, especially during holiday weekends, summer weekends, and events like Atomic Days and the rodeo in July.

In the past, renovations have included redoing the floors, walls, and paneling, remodeling the kitchen, as well as replacing or adding new appliances.

This year, to improve their electrical capabilities, they replaced all of their electrical systems.

John Danz is the owner of Pickle's Place and says,

"Things work better now, and we're able to cook our foods faster and do a better job of things. And then we replaced our electrical system. And doing that helped us not have problems with fuses blowing so our air conditioners stay on in the summer."

Nellie's was the name of the restaurant when it first opened in 1959.

Before changing its name to Pickle's Place in 1983, it was known as the chicken coop for about twenty years.

John started working there in 1984, at age 14, when Margene Phillips owned the restaurant.

Pickle was the nickname of Margene.

John bought the restaurant in 1993.
