In what is a mighty blow for Sri Lanka, Angelo Mathews, the Sri Lankan all-rounder, tested positive for COVID-19 late on the second day of the first Test against Australia and has been ruled out of the ongoing Test in Galle. Oshada Fernando has come in as Mathews's replacement, who was feeling unwell after play on the second day.

"Angelo Mathews tested positive for Covid-19," an SLC statement said on Friday (July 1). "He was found to be positive during a Rapid Antigen test conducted on the player yesterday. The test was done, as the player was feeling unwell. Accordingly, he has been isolated from the rest of the team members and is following Covid-19 protocols."

Australia's lower order chipped in with handy runs late in the innings as the visitors took their lead to 109 before being bowled out for 321.
