DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) - A man charged with murder in a 2023 Dawson shooting has been found to be not guilty, according to the Dawson Police Department.

Police originally arrested Detravion Simmons, 22, on charges of felony murder and aggravated assault in the death of Austin Johnson, 25, in April 2023.

On Feb. 29, 2024, Simmons was found not guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to a court document.

The shooting happened on the 500 block of Forrester Drive in Dawson. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The GBI has not released any other possible suspects in Johnson’s death.
