Fire crews say they responded to the Williams Center in Rutherford today for calls of an odor of smoke caused by an exhaust fan that burned out in a bathroom.
The 100-year-old building has been revitalized as the Artist-Run Arts Center in Rutherford, according to its website.
Fire crews were in the building for about an hour to ventilate.
Deputy Chief Bryan Sartori, of the Rutherford Fire Department, says there were no visible flames, just an odor of something burning and slight smoke.
“When we came here, there was a slight smoke condition in the building. Our crews were able to secure the electric and stop the smoke condition,” Sartori said.
The scene was cleared, and shows are scheduled to go on as normal.
