TUSCOLA Ill. (WAND) — A man was charged with murder Thursday after a deadly stabbing in Tuscola.

Douglas County State's Attorney Robert Kosic said the stabbing happened Wednesday afternoon in the area of Parke and Van Allen streets.

Kosic said Joshua Henderson was arrested for the stabbing on probable cause. Henderson is in custody at the Douglas County Jail and appeared in court via Zoom Thursday. He was charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery.

Kosic said the stabbing is still under investigation by police.

WAND reached out to the Douglas County Coroner's Office and they identified the victim as Phillip Sanders age 56 of Tuscola, IL.

Henderson was denied pre-trial release based on his "prior history" and the fact that he "had dried blood on his chest" and was holding a "bloody knife" when he first encountered law enforcement according to the Detention Order filed in Douglas County.

His next court date is April 15th at 1 p.m.

WAND News will update this story when more information becomes available.
