Arkansas State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place in Eureka Springs on Saturday.

A release from state police stated that Christopher Vanschoick, 36, died after an Eureka Springs Police Department officer fired at him.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office had received a call that Vanschoick had brandished a handgun during a disturbance at the Rowdy Beaver Den at 47 Spring Street, according to state police.

ESPD arrived and found Vanschoick sitting in his vehicle on the street near the Rowdy Beaver Den. A struggle happened and led to Vanschoick taking out a handgun and one of the officers firing his weapon, striking Vanschoick.

He was declared dead by the Carrol County coroner’s office and his body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the cause and manner of death.
