RANCHO CORDOVA — A suspect was arrested after authorities say he followed a worker into a Rancho Cordova sports bar kitchen and stabbed a man who tried to get him to leave late Thursday night.

The owner of Mr. Tequila Sports Bar & Grill, on the 12000 block of Folsom Boulevard, said a man who appeared to be homeless entered the building with an umbrella and a white bag. The man, who authorities identified as 36-year-old Delance Jefferson, then left for some time before returning and following a woman through the restaurant as she was working.

When Jefferson followed the worker into the kitchen, another man confronted him and attempted to get him to leave the bar. That's when the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said Jefferson stabbed the man multiple times.

Investigators initially said the stabbing victim was also an employee of the bar. The owner of Mr. Tequila said the victim was actually the fiancee of one of his business partners.

Deputies said the victim was rushed to the hospital where he is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Witnesses told deputies Jefferson was refused service at the bar as he didn't have enough money to pay for his drink.

Other customers chased Jefferson out of the bar and pointed him out to deputies at the scene.

Jefferson, who was on probation for multiple felonies, was arrested and booked into jail for assault with a deadly weapon. His bail is set at $500,000.

According to Mr. Tequila Sports Bar & Grill's Yelp page, the bar closes on Thursdays at 10 p.m.

The bar is near Folsom Boulevard and Hazel Avenue, just off Highway 50, in the Nimbus Winery Mall.
