LORETTO, Tenn. (WSMV) - Rescue crews pulled a man and a woman from a creek after their truck was swept away by flood waters rushing over a road in Lawrence County early Friday morning.

According to Lawrence County Fire and Rescue, heavy rains caused Hurricane Creek to overflow in Loretto, Tennessee on Friday, and a pickup truck was swept away while crossing the low-water bridge on Gieske Road

Rescue teams arrived and found the pickup nearly submerged with the woman in the bed of the truck and the man in the water. The man had already swam to the bank but had re-entered the rushing creek to assist the woman and was having difficulty swimming, according to LCFR. A sergeant with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office jumped in to help the man back onto the bank and rescue efforts for the woman began immediately.

LCFR teams successfully transported the woman from the nearly-submerged truck bed to the bank without further incident or injury.
