The superintendent of Fall River Public Schools said Friday that the district would increase police presence at its schools after a student was shot to death off-campus on a city street.

Police said 18-year-old Colus Jamal Mills-Good was shot in the stomach Thursday morning on Rock Street. Mills-Good was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Hospital.

The city said the teenager was a student at the Robert L. Medeiros Resiliency Preparatory Academy, about two blocks from where he was gunned down.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of life," a statement from superintendent Maria Pontes said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with our student's family, friends and loved ones. We ask that you respect their privacy during this very difficult time.

Pontes said police would be more visible at city schools out of an abundance of caution. Counselors are also being made available to the Resiliency Prep community.

"The safety of our students and staff continues to be our highest priority. It is imperative that we all remain vigilant in our collective efforts to uphold that safety for all," Pontes said.

Witnesses told NBC 10 News that the shots were fired by three men in a car.

Police said Thursday that no arrests had been made, but they don't believe there's any threat to the public.
