Freeze and frost potential Northshore
THANK YOU. GINA. GUESS WHAT SPRING ARRIVES TOMORROW. I KNOW A LOT OF YOU REALLY HAPPY ABOUT IT. NOTICE THE AVERAGE HIGH TOMORROW IS 73. LATER THIS WEEK. WE ARE GOING TO BE IN THE LOW 70S. AND NOTICE THAT SPRING DOESN’T ARRIVE UNTIL 1006 IN THE EVENING. AND BY THE WAY, WE’VE GOT THE FREEZE WARNING IN THE MORNING FOR THE NORTH PORTION OF THE NORTH SHORE WIND. IT IS STILL WINTER HERE, BY THE WAY, OUR LAST FREEZE DATE IN THE NEW ORLEANS AREA, APRIL 8TH, THAT WAS SET IN 1971. SO YOU COULD HAVE A FREEZE UP UNTIL ALL THAT DAY. ALL RIGHT. HERE IS A LOOK AT OUR WDSU FIRST WARNING WEATHER. AND THERE IS A LOOK AT THE FREEZE WARNING. GO AHEAD. PROTECT PLANTS, PETS AND PEOPLE FOR THE NORTH PORTION OF THE NORTH SHORE. BUT BE AWARE ALL ACROSS THE NORTH SHORE YOU DO HAVE A RISK FOR FROST. NOW THERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT ARE KIND OF GOING AGAINST THIS FREEZE AND THE FROST. WE STILL HAVE A CLOUD DECK AND WE STILL HAVE A PRETTY DECENT WIND GOING ON, SO THAT HAS GOT TO CLEAR OUT AND DIE DOWN. TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW NEAR 50 TO THE LOW 50S FOR THE NORTH SHORE. SOUTH SHORE WE’RE IN THE MID TO THE UPPER 50S. WE LOOK AT THAT WIND. NORTH SHORE. LET ME TELL YOU, IT’S STILL PRETTY WINDY. NORTH NINE, TEN, 12MPH. SOUTH SHORE. IT IS BLOWING AT THE LAKEFRONT 30MPH. OF COURSE, SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES IN EFFECT AND. THE WIND GUSTING RIGHT NOW TO 36MPH. WE HAVE GOT THAT SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY POSTED, BUT BUT LOOK, THE DEW POINT IS VERY LOW. THAT’S THE MEASURE OF MOISTURE IN THE AIR. AND IF YOU HAVE CLEAR SKIES AND LIGHT WINDS, TEMPERATURES CAN SOMETIMES DROP CLOSE TO THAT DEW POINT. I DON’T SEE THAT HAPPENING. BUT WHAT IS HAPPENING IS THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE IS BUILDING IN THAT’S GOING TO ALLOW THE WIND TO DIE DOWN AND THE SKIES CLEARING OUT A LITTLE BIT. WHAT WE STILL HAVE SOME CLOUDS, SO YOU CAN SEE DEFINITE CLOUDS ON THE SOUTH SHORE, CLEARING A LITTLE BIT ON THE NORTH SHORE. THAT MAY HELP WITH YOUR TEMPERATURES TO DROP. BUT LOOK OFFSHORE. LET ME TELL YOU THAT WIND IS STILL BLOWING FOR TONIGHT. NORTH 20 TO 2530 KNOTS. AND BY THE WAY, TIDAL RANGE. PRETTY GOOD WITH THOSE HIGH TIDES OCCURRING AT NIGHT INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. SO WE GO HOUR BY HOUR. HERE WE ARE IN THE MORNING AND IT SAYS MID 30S FOR THE NORTH SHORE. I DO THINK MANY AREAS WILL BE IN THE MID 30S NOW. THAT TEMPERATURE MAY BRIEFLY DROP TO THE FREEZING MARK KIND OF OFF OUR THESE ARE TEMPERATURES AT THE TOP OF THE HOUR. I HAVE WRITTEN AN ARTICLE WDSU.COM, UM, THAT GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT YOU SHOULD PROTECT BECAUSE I AM A GARDENER AND HAVE A GOOD SENSE OF IT. DON’T WORRY ABOUT YOUR AZALEAS, YOUR TREES. IT’S REALLY THE TROPICALS. YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED WITH. LIKE YOUR HIBISCUS. THEN AS WE GO THROUGH THE DAY, NOT WARMING UP A LOT, WE WILL HAVE MORE SUNSHINE, HIGH TEMPERATURES NEAR 60. THEN WE GO INTO WEDNESDAY, SOME OFF AND ON CLOUDS. IT’S STILL CHILLY. SOME RISKS THAT YOU COULD HAVE SOME FROST ON THE NORTH SHORE DEPENDING ON WHETHER THOSE SKIES STAY CLEAR. AND THAT WOULD BE FOR YOUR WEDNESDAY. AND THEN HIGH TEMPERATURES CLIMB UP TO ABOUT 70 DEGREES. WHETHER THERE IS CHANGING FOR THURSDAY. SO WHAT WE HAVE IS THIS AREA OF LOW PRESSURE OFFSHORE. THAT’S GOING TO CAUSE OUR RAIN CHANCES TO GO UP THURSDAY INTO VERY EARLY FRIDAY, AND THEN IT’S MOVING OUT. I REALLY DON’T SEE A WHOLE LOT OF RAIN WITH IT. MAYBE A QUARTER OF AN INCH. SO AS YOU LOOK AT YOUR WDSU FIRST WARNING WEATHER SPRING TOMORROW NIGHT, THURSDAY, RAIN CHAN
