Arrest made in connection to Lincoln's Lodge shooting

A Springfield man is arrested in connection to the shooting at Lincoln's Lodge Hotel that killed Aaron Suttle 47, on March 18.

According to the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office, Dontreal L. Spencer, Jr. 31, was identified as the suspect in the shooting.

On March 21, the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Spencer Jr.

The warrant charges Spencer with three counts of First Degree Murder, one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and one count of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

Spencer is currently on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections for a 2019 conviction for Robbery, and a 2021 conviction for Mob Action.

At 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday, the United States Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force and Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office apprehended Spencer at his residence in the 1600 block of South 14th Street in Springfield.

Spencer was taken to the Sangamon County Jail to await a pre-trial detention hearing.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing. Multiple items of evidence have been submitted to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for forensic testing, and detectives continue to locate and identify witnesses.
