19-year-old killed in head-on collision in Laveen
LAVEEN VILLAGE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — A head-on collision has left a 19-year-old dead and another person hurt on Friday evening in Laveen.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies say the crash happened just after 8 p.m. near Loop 202 and Broadway Road. Authorities say 19-year-old Christian Rodriguez crashed head-on into another vehicle while he attempted to pass in a construction zone.
According to deputies, Rodriguez was rushed to the hospital but later died. The driver of the other vehicle was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies are working to determine if speed, alcohol or distraction played a role in the crash. MCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Unit will take over the investigation.
The area was shut down throughout the night but reopened around 3 a.m. Saturday.
