LOSING THEIR MAJOR LEAGUE AFFILIATION FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW. MILAN NATIVE BAILEY VITELLO HAS COMPLETED THE IDITAROD. HE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE EARLIER TODAY, PLACING 17TH WITH A FINAL TIME OF TEN DAYS, TEN HOURS, TWO MINUTES AND 16 SECONDS. THAT IS AN IMPROVEMENT FROM HIS ROOKIE RUN LAST YEAR, WHEN HE CAME IN 24TH PLACE, COMPLETING THE RACE IN ABOUT 11.5 DAYS. VITELLO’S 17TH PLACE FINISH ALMOST DIDN’T HAPPEN. For the second year in a row, Milan native Bailey Vitello has completed the Iditarod.Vitello crossed the finish line earlier Thursday, placing 17th with a final time of 10 days, 10 hours, 2 minutes and 16 seconds.This year’s finish was an improvement from his rookie run last year when he came in 24th place and completed the race in about 11 and a half days.Vitello's 17th-place finish almost did not happen, though.>> Download the free WMUR app to get updates on the go: Apple | Google Play <<Iditarod officials said Alaska state troopers are investigating a snowmobiler's collision with Vitello's sled team.According to the "Team Bailey" Facebook page, the collision happened on Tuesday in broad daylight while he was traveling between two checkpoints.The team says one of the dogs was clipped, but after getting thoroughly inspected, that dog was cleared to finish the race.Iditarod officials said the snowmobiler left the scene, but troopers believe they have identified a suspect.

Iditarod officials said Alaska state troopers are investigating a snowmobiler's collision with Vitello's sled team.

According to the "Team Bailey" Facebook page, the collision happened on Tuesday in broad daylight while he was traveling between two checkpoints.

The team says one of the dogs was clipped, but after getting thoroughly inspected, that dog was cleared to finish the race.

Iditarod officials said the snowmobiler left the scene, but troopers believe they have identified a suspect.
