PARENTS are being asked to ensure they put their children in car seats.
Greenwich Council is urging parents to strap in children under the age of 12 to comply with new seatbelt laws, which came into effect last month.
Parents are now required to ensure children up to 4ft 5in tall are belted up in a car safety seat or on a booster cushion.
Last year, of the 941 people involved in road traffic accidents in Greenwich, 104 were children.
Cabinet member for environment and community safety Councillor Maureen O'Mara said: "The Government estimates these changes could prevent more than 2,000 child deaths or injuries nationwide, so I urge drivers to become familiar with the new laws."
