Rosatom, Kyrgyzstan agree to collaborate on small HPP projects

MOSCOW. March 25 (Interfax) - JSC Rusatom Service, an entity of Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation, has signed an agreement with Kyrgyzstan's Energy Ministry to develop and implement small hydroelectric power projects in the country, the media center of the nuclear industry said.

"The parties have enshrined an agreement to collaborate on developing and implementing an investment project to construct small hydroelectric power facilities in the Kyrgyz Republic with capacity of up to 400 MW," the media center said.

The parties could construct hydroelectric power plants "in the Talas, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions, respectively, as well as in other regions."

The country's Deputy Energy Minister Talaibek Baigaziyev earlier on Monday at the Atom Expo 2024 forum said that Kyrgyzstan has been preparing to sign an agreement with Rosatom to construct low-power nuclear power plants, and that the country has been cooperating with NovaWind, part of Rosatom, on the matter of an investment agreement on wind generation.

As reported, NovaWind is considering the possibility of constructing a 100-MW wind farm in Kyrgyzstan. Rosatom has also planned to develop a pre-feasibility study for a small NPP in Kyrgyzstan.
