LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Republican National Committee (RNC) has filed a lawsuit against Michigan’s Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson.

The state of Michigan is being sued for allegedly violating the National Voter Registration Act by failing to maintain clean, accurate voter registration rolls.

The Republican National Committee’s lawsuit claims that at least 53 counties have an impossibly high number of registered voters. Benson responded to the lawsuit on CNN last night.

“We’ve done more in the last five than in the last two decades to remove ineligible citizens from our voter rolls and increase their accuracy,” said Benson. “The reason this is happening is because it’s a political strategy. It’s a PR strategy masquerading as a legal strategy.”

According to this lawsuit, Michigan is a crucial battleground state, so the GOP’s legal strategy will center around voter rolls.
