Gold Medal Chef Mathew Peters Set to Elevate Austin's Culinary Scene with New Lounge and Fine Dining VentureSource: Instagram/chefmattpeters

Chef Mathew Peters, whose distinguished culinary achievements include nabbing the Bocuse d'Or gold medal and an eight-year tenure at iconic Michelin-starred establishments like The French Laundry and Per Se, is all set to infuse Austin's dining scene with his distinct culinary prowess. Peters is set to open a reservations-only cocktail lounge called Prélude this April, followed by Maven, a fine dining restaurant slated for late 2025, both located at the historic address of 707 West 10th Street in downtown Austin's evolving West End neighborhood, according to Austin Eater.

The plan for Prélude is to offer an ambiance that exudes exclusivity and high-quality service, serving canapes that set the stage for the full Maven experience to come. "I do love to be playful with the menus and see what my diners enjoy most, so I could see myself changing the structure over time with new ideas," Peters said, as per Austin Eater.

Peters, a Pennsylvania native, sees his connection with Austin as not merely a random choice of location, but an opportunity to cultivate his vision for Texas fine dining. With the anticipation building around Prélude and Maven, Peters aims to offer a dining experience that captures his fine dining background, balances it with a playful approach, and adapts to local flavors which few other concepts in the area have explored.

The connection between Peters and Austin goes beyond just the culinary scene. Together with his wife Lorin, a fellow chef and a local, they are not just creating individual ventures but also contributing to the food culture in Austin, including being involved with efforts to bring the esteemed Michelin Guide to Texas, as reported by the Austin American Statesman. Renovations for the West 10th Street establishment, which will house both the cocktail lounge and restaurant are set to begin in early 2025, with the lounge remaining open throughout the redevelopment process.
