Record setting February comes to an end

NOW: Record setting February comes to an end

A crazy February, including the extra last day of the month, is in the record books! And crazy it was! The average temperature for the entire month was an astounding 36.7 degrees which smashes the old record of 35.5* set a few years ago in 2017.

The warmest temperature of the month, 74* just a few days ago, was the warmest temperature ever recorded during the month of February and only the second time in history seeing 70s in February. The coldest temp was also very mild when we dropped to 11* on February 17. Overall the month was almost 10* above average.

The excess in temperatures also resulted in less precipitation than normal. We had a few light rain and snow events that only totaled to 0.79" for the month which was well below average and even lower compared to February 2023's astounding 4+ inches of precipitation. It goes down as the 35th driest February on record.

And the lack of snowfall was even more impressive. February only saw 2.9" of snow which was almost 9" below average and well below last February. It's low enough to be in the Top 20 least snowy February's on record.

Now we look ahead to March! It's a month that usually average over 6" of snowfall with average highs rising from the upper 30s to the upper 40s by the end of the month and average lows going from the mid 20s to the low 30s. Spring is just a few weeks away with the spring equinox at 10:06 PM on March 19th.
