A routine trip to the gas station to buy petrol took an unexpected turn for a man who ended up winning a million dollars in the lottery.

Randall Morgan secured a $1 million (£800,000) lottery prize from the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, February 21. The winning Quick Pick ticket was bought at a Flash Market gas station in Colt, north of Forrest City, Arkansas.

A regular lottery player, Morgan habitually said he stops at Flash Market for gas for his work vehicle often and occasionally buys lottery tickets.

The winning numbers —4, 27, 33, 41, and 42, with the Powerball number 14— turned out to be the lucky combination for him.

Unaware of his windfall, Morgan returned to the gas station the following week to buy more tickets when the clerk informed him of his win. "Bro, you gotta go to Little Rock," the clerk told Randall.

The news initially overwhelmed Morgan, who was taken aback by the magnitude of the prize and thought: "Am I having a heart attack?" Morgan has shared the news of his win with only a few close friends and family members, including his oldest sister, who initially didn't believe him, and her son, who accompanied him to the claim center to celebrate.

Still reeling from the shock of his win, Morgan admitted he has "no idea" what he plans to do with his newfound wealth, while his sister has wasted no time in purchasing lottery tickets of her own.

As Morgan considers his next steps, the overall Powerball jackpot climbs to $443 million for the upcoming Saturday, March 2 drawing.

The news comes just days since a warehouse worker bagged an £800,000 ($1m) lottery jackpot - after finding the forgotten winning ticket hiding in her purse.

The stunned woman, from Maryland, USA, said she planned to pay off her mortgage and donate to an animal rescue centre after collecting the life-changing sum of money this week.

She had bought the £7.89 ($10) ‘quick-pick’ Powerball ticket at a shop in the town of Snow Hill, in the hopes of winning the massive £658m ($835m) jackpot back on September 27.

The woman, who has decided to remain anonymous, then forgot all about it following the draw where no one won the huge cash prize.

But in fact, she was one of four players nationwide to win £800,000 ($1m), which was a second-tier prize, as part of the competition.
