Editor: In Hazleton we have two governing bodies, the one everyone sees and the one that’s been behind closed doors for a very, very long time. The latter of these two is the true governing body. The majority of long-time residents living in Hazleton have spent most of their lives growing up and working in Hazleton. They paid taxes, built the schools, maintained the schools and provided a sound American education for the children. New industry has attracted new residents and their families looking for work and seeking a better life. Sadly, the long-time residents are faced with increased taxation, overcrowded classrooms and lack of decent housing for these newcomers. The new industries are handed free taxation for 10 years with minor declines through these years. These new industries are not required to help in the areas of housing, education and city infrastructure issues. The organization responsible for these debacles, and you know who it is, made no contingency plans for this influx of people and industry such as improved traffic patterns, increased law enforcement, improved housing and who will finance all of this.
