'Hats for Hope' fashion show returns honoring life of Louisville cancer patient
IT’S FREE AND NOW OPEN FOR SELF-GUIDED TOURS. WELL, IT WAS A DAY OF FASHION AND FUNDRAISING RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD AT THE MELLWOOD ARTS CENTER. THE KIM HEATH HATS FOR HOPE FASHION SHOW OFFERED UP SOME FASHIONABLE TRACKSIDE OUTFITS PERFECT FOR OAKS AND DERBY. BUT IT WASN’T JUST ABOUT THE ATTIRE. THIS EVENT RAISES MONEY FOR CANCER RESEARCH AT U OF L HEALTH, BROWN CANCER CENTER. THE SHOW WAS STARTED BY KIM HEATH, WHO BATTLED CANCER COURAGEOUSLY FOR SIX YEARS AT THE CENTER BEFORE PASSING AWAY LAST YEAR. JUST BEFORE THE FIRST SHOW, ORGANIZERS SAY REFLECTS HER VISION OF HELPING OTHERS ALONG IN THEIR CANCER JOURNEY. IT’S REALLY GIVING THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO HIGHLIGHT THEIR JOURNEY AND FIGHTING CANCER. WE HAVE CURRENT PATIENTS, WE HAVE SURVIVORS. BUT REALLY MAKING THEM FEEL UNIQUE AND SPECIAL IN WHAT THEY’RE GOING THROUGH, RIGHT? SO IT’S A CHANCE FOR THEM TO FIND THAT INNER PEACE AND, AND JUST HIGHLIGHT THEMSELVES. LAST YEAR, HATS FOR HOPE FASHION SHOW RAISED GET THIS $40,000 TO THE BROWN CANCER CENTER. Models walked the runway in Derby-themed fashion for a good cause at the Mellwood Arts Center.The Kim Heath Hat's for Hope Fashion Show was on Sunday.It featured fashionable track-side outfits for the Oaks and Derby this season.The event also raised money for cancer research cancer research at UofL Health Brown Cancer Center.The show was started by Kin Heath, who battled cancer for six years before dying in 2023, just before the first show.“The Kim Heath Hats for Hope Fashion Show represents everything Kim loved: the Derby, fashion, shopping and most importantly, supporting the cause to beat cancer,” said Chris Fulkerson, fashion show director and friend of Heath. “She was an inspiration to so many people, including those who treated her at Brown Cancer Center, and I feel honored to continue the work she was most passionate about.”The fashion show included both cancer survivors and UofL Health providers and staff.
