Nebraska's new athletic director Troy Dannen agrees to 6-year contract, $1.6 million salary
Nebraska's new athletic director, Troy Dannen, agreed to a six-year contract with the university.
Dannen will earn $1.6 million in his first year — $100,000 less than his predecessor Trev Alberts was set to earn, according to a copy of the offer letter obtained by KETV NewsWatch 7.

The university named Dannen as the new athletic director on Wednesday morning.

The deal includes a $100,000 annual raise through March 2030, and stay bonuses starting March 31, 2027.

Dannen will also receive a $1 million signing bonus, and the university will pay damages owed to Washington, according to the offer letter.
According to Dannen's Washington contract, he had a $1 million annual salary and a $1.5 million buyout. He also owes a $275,000 relocation bonus from the University of Washington, according to the contract.
“Joining the Nebraska family is truly an honor. My family and I are humbled by the opportunity to be part of such a proud athletics program, institution, community and state. Growing up in Iowa, I watched a lot of Nebraska football on Saturdays with my family,” Dannen said in a statement.

The offer letter also includes a buyout if Dannen resigns before the end of the contract, starting at $12.2 million if he leaves before March 31, 2025.
Dannen leaves Washington after six months at the university. Previously, he led Tulane's athletic department for about eight years.
