Two University of Wisconsin women's hockey players have entered the transfer portal days after they were on the bench for the NCAA championship game .
Goalie Jane Gervais and defender Sophie Helgeson are looking for new destinations, according to a list of transfer portal entrants kept by the website Gopher Puck Live . Both have one season of eligibility remaining.
Gervais started the first game of Wisconsin's first 18 series of the season in a rotation with freshman Ava McNaughton . The Badgers went with McNaughton as the No. 1 goalie starting at the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Faceoff.
The Badgers have a goalie committed for 2025 in Rhyah Stewart from Nova Scotia. That leaves McNaughton and Chloe Baker as goalies scheduled to return to Wisconsin's roster in 2024-25.
The transfer portal gives the Badgers an option to fill the gap. Colgate's Kayle Osborne and Minnesota Duluth's Hailey MacLeod are among goalies already in the portal, and both had save percentages better than .940 last season.

Gervais redshirted in 2020-21 and played in only three games in 2021-22. She was in a rotation with Cami Kronish in 2022-23 but suffered an injury; Kronish became the No. 1 goalie in her final collegiate season and was the most outstanding player of the 2023 Frozen Four .
Gervais had a .921 save percentage and a 1.55 goals-against average last season.
Helgeson was credited with 31 games played in 2023-24 but her ice time was limited. She's a defender but often was in a forward position when she played because the Badgers were short on players up front.
Her only three goals in 74 career games for Wisconsin were in a 16-1 win at Lindenwood on Sept. 29, 2023.
