Waterfront Wednesdays

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Grab your lawn chairs, the lineup for 91.9 WFPK's Waterfront Wednesday is here.

This year marks the 22nd season for the free concert series, which returns April 24 with Phosphorescent, Dehd, and Tyrone Cotton.

The concerts are held on the Big Four Lawn at Waterfront Park, next to the walking bridge. The lawn opens at 5 p.m. and music begins at 6 p.m. for the monthly series that runs through September.

Waterfront Wednesday also includes Waterfront KidsDay, which is a "dedicated area" for kids and families from 5-8 p.m. during each show. 

"We've got something for everyone this season," WFPK Program Director Stacy Owen said in a news release on Wednesday. "Alt, Americana, songwriters, funk, hip hop, Latin, and classic rock. Can't wait to meet our community of music lovers on the Big Four Lawn and get this season started."

With the lineup announcement, WFPK is also holding a prize drawing. The winner will get a reserved parking space for each show this year, backstage access, event swag, and two tickets to Jack Harlow's Gazebo Festival, featuring SZA, on Memorial Day weekend. Organizers said the concert series is a rain or shine event, and to watch WFPK's social media pages, such as Facebook, for any updates or potential delays. 

While outside alcohol, coolers, glass, and pets are prohibited, there are food and drink vendors on-site.

"Waterfront Wednesday has become synonymous with summertime at Waterfront Park," Deborah Bilitski, president and executive director for Waterfront Park, said in a news release Wednesday. "It's such a great community asset showcasing our beautiful riverfront and the community's love of music and coming together."

The free concert series first began in 2002, showcasing "local and emerging national recording artists as heard on radio station 91.9 WFPK." Since then, it has drawn thousands to Louisville's waterfront and has helped Louisville receive an international award as a top city for festivals, WFPK said.
