Gov. Ivey proclaims Saturday, Nov. 25 as Small Business Saturday

Attendees of the 2023 Athens Christmas Open House event visit shops, restaurants on the Square.

Athens-Limestone has more than 200 BBB accredited businesses, with more than 150 of those being in Athens and the remaining 50 in the Limestone County reach. While not all of them are going to be entirely local, a lot of them are locally owned and operated by neighbors, for neighbors.

With this many options, Athens-Limestone residents and visitors to the area should be able to find a business that can meet their needs, all while keeping the area’s local economy circulating.

It can be easy to think of local businesses and remember the ones on main street in downtown, but the truth is that these businesses reach from Athens, Elkmont and Ardmore’s squares to locations on Highway 72 and off of county roads that it can take a true local to find.

These local businesses also span a wide range of industries. For example, without leaving locally owned businesses, a customer could buy:

- A car from Champion or one of several used car lots.

- Supplies for those cars from Dixie Auto Parts.

- Groceries from Hometown.

- Electrical services and supplies from Encore Electrical and Inline Lighting.

- Coffee from Hi-Plane.

- Bakery items from K-May or Suzanne’s.

- Dinner from Village Pizza or Ramona J’s.

- A new outfit from Boutique Bliss or Bennett’s.

- Candles and self care items from Flirty Flame.

- Home decor from Crawford’s or Trinity’s.

- Furniture from Riff Raff or a local antique shop.
