Police in Canada still disproportionately white and male, StatCan report finds

Experts say diversifying police forces isn’t enough, policing culture also needs to change.

New StatCan report shows that police forces across the country and at every level, under-represent everyday Canadians from racialized groups.


Policing in Canada continues to be a white and male dominated profession, a new Statistics Canada report shows.

The latest figures show that white men remain overrepresented in police forces across the country at every level, from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to the Ontario Provincial Police and down to municipal police services.
