MANAMA, BAHRAIN — Bahrain Flour Mills Co. is planning to build a new flour mill to meet Bahrain’s flour needs, Gulf Daily News reported.

The company will design the new mill this year for a site that already has been identified, said company chairman Basim Al Saie on the sidelines of the company's annual general meeting.

More details about the project, including the location, size and cost will be announced at a later time. Al Saie said the project is a “national food security initiative” and will meet the country’s flour needs for the next 30 to 40 years.

Bahrain Flour Mills was established in 1970 and currently operates a mill in Mina Salman with a capacity of about 520 tonnes per day.

The company added a new milling unit last year that has boosted capacity by 100 tonnes per day. It also is embracing digital solutions with an e-commerce platform.
