The White Australia policy was a series of discriminatory laws in Australia aimed at preventing immigration from non-European backgrounds, particularly Asians and Pacific Islanders, to maintain a predominantly white, British-oriented society. These policies came into being at our nations federation in 1901, but it would take another 72 years for them to be dismantled.

Joining us on Overnights to talk about this dark chapter in our countries history is historian and author Dr. Benjamin T. Jones from Central Queensland University.
