DES MOINES, Iowa — Spring showers and thunderstorms swirled through Iowa overnight and on Thursday morning.

Healthy rainfall totals were reported over southern and southeastern Iowa, while totals were a little lower farther north, per a map from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet Site

As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, rain was still falling in northern and western Iowa. That part of the state will easily add more rain on top of their totals from overnight. Additional light amounts are possible throughout the day in central Iowa, too.

Rainfall totals surpassed 1" in our southernmost areas, mainly near the Missouri state line.

Closer to central Iowa, amounts varied from just a few sprinkles to nearly half an inch of rain.

Though mid-morning, Des Moines International Airport reported 0.46" of rain, bringing the total for March to nearly 0.7".

There were some unfortunate dry spots, including areas of Boone, Marshall and Story Counties, along U.S. Highway 30.
