Digital Fabrication Lab at Fort Valley State University open to all Middle Georgians

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –  Fort Valley State University, Chevron and the Fab Foundation invited the community, students and members of the University to its ribbon cutting and grand opening for their Digital Fabrication Lab on Wednesday.

“We’re extremely excited about that, the space is open to the public as well,” manager Heaven Whitby said. “It’s not just here to serve our university students and staff as well as K thru 12 students, but it’s also open to our Middle Georgia community as well.”

Whitby says the lab contains state of the art technology.

“Pretty much every single machine and software that you would need to make anything you can imagine, we have here in the lab,” Whitby said. “And we are also expecting you to show up with no experience at all. That’s why I’m here to help you learn from whatever step is step one for you.”

Whitby says she actually made a model of a Nefertiti, Egyptian head to be used as a planter.

“You can sit a succulent in that if you wanted to,” she said. “And the reason why I made it hollow like that is because I was researching how can use 3-D print molds, so can actually use that one plastic one to make planters out of cement that you can place in your garden for example, and that would be a succulent Nefertiti head planter made out of cement if you want to.”
