MARIETTA, Oklahoma (KTEN)- KTEN has confirmed that Marietta Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Alex Doby is stepping down before next season.

He'll be heading to Plainview to serve as an assistant on its coaching staff.

Doby cited family as one of the biggest reasons for his decision. His son is currently in the Plainview schools system.

Doby was just 3-32 across four seasons in charge although he battled COVID and numbers-related issues.

In response to the move, Marietta Superintedent Brandi Naylor provided KTEN with the following statement:

"We appreciate all of the hard work Coach Doby did working to make our athletic program first class," Naylor said. "We wish him nothing but the best."

Naylor also added that the athletic director and head football roles are currently posted and "can be separated if needed depending on the applicant pool and the direction the district chooses to go."
