Volunteer blood donors are always needed. Three health care organizations have scheduled donor drives around Lancaster County throughout March.

As warmer temperatures give us all the hope of spring, with new life springing up around us, keep those in mind who may need donated blood to have a new lease on life.

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health reports there is still a blood shortage around the United States and encourages those who are eligible to donate to do so at one of the many blood drives scheduled around Lancaster County this month.

Below is a list of Lancaster County blood drives, sponsored by three health care organizations, for the month of March.

Some blood drives offer incentives such as free T-shirts, coupons and tickets to movies and other events, or a chance at winning a prize drawing.

You can visit the websites for the American Red Cross, the Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank and Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health for information on who qualifies to be a donor and for registration and tips on how to prepare to donate blood.

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health

Donors may go to blood drives at various locations or can go to the donor center at the Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Suburban Pavilion, 2104 Harrisburg Ave., Lancaster, from Monday through Friday.

All blood donors must schedule an appointment to donate by calling 717-544-0177 or going to LGhealth.org/giveblood. Visit the website for donor center hours.

Blood that is collected stays in Lancaster County to benefit members of the local community.

— LGH Willow Lakes, 212 Willow Valley Lakes Drive, Willow Street, noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 6.

— Bareville Fire Company, 211 E. Main St., Leola, 2-8 p.m. Thursday, March 7.

— Providence Township building, 200 Mount Airy Road, New Providence, 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12.

— Lancaster County Government Center, 150 N. Queen St., Lancaster, Room 102, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 13.

— Signature Custom Cabinetry, 434 Springville Road, Ephrata, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 14.

— Faith Church – Quarryville, 611 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19.

— Intercourse Fire Company, 10 N. Hollander Road, Intercourse, 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 20.

— Lancaster Bible College, 901 Eden Road, Lancaster, in Upper Miller Hall, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 21.

— Lafayette Fire Company, 63 Lafayette Way, Lancaster, 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26.

— Robert Fulton Fire Company, 2271 Robert Fulton Highway, Peach Bottom, 2-7 p.m. Thursday, March 28.

Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank

To donate to the Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank, donors can sign up online at 717giveblood.org or call 800-771-0059.

You can donate Monday through Friday at the Lancaster Donor Center, 3027 Columbia Ave., in East Hempfield Township, or Monday through Thursday and Saturday at the Ephrata Donor Center, 446 N. Reading Road, Suite 201, Ephrata. Hours are posted on the website.

— Root’s Country Market and Auction, 705 Graystone Road, Manheim, in the bloodmobile, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5.

— Penn Cinema, 541 Airport Road, Lititz, in the lobby, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both Thursday, March 7, and Friday, March 22.

— Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA, 88 Village Road, Lampeter, in the parking lot, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12.

— Martindale Community Blood Drive, 527 Gristmill Road, Ephrata, in the training room, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, March 18.

— Park City Center, 142 Park City Center (store space next to White House Black Market), 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 25.

— Universal Athletic Club, 2323 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, register in the lobby; the bloodmobile is in the parking lot, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26.

— Oregon Dairy Inc., 2900 Oregon Pike, south of Lititz, in the blood mobile, noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28.

— Lititz Church of the Brethren, 300 W. Orange St., Lititz, in the Family Life Center, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 29.

American Red Cross

American Red Cross donors can register and schedule a time and place to donate at RedCrossBlood.org. You can also call 800-733-2767 or download the Red Cross blood donor app.
