PAHOA, Hawaii (Island News) -- The owner of a Pahoa restaurant told Island News that it has been one misfortune after another. Pele's Kitchen caught fire Tuesday at 8:41 p.m. and the back storage room burned down.
What's more, the owner says over two weeks ago his insurance was canceled for the restaurant. And last week the owner says somebody fired shots into the front windows of the cafe on Pahoa Village Road.
The Hawaii County Fire Department was able to contain the Tuesday night fire before spreading to any other structures.
The owner spoke with Island News but did not wish to give his name.
"Propane works perfect, stove, hot water, no idea how or what actually did this," he noted.
Pahoa Village Road was closed temporarily on Tuesday night. An estimated $100,000 in damages were sustained in the back storage rooms that burned. There were no injuries in the blaze as the restaurant was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
