NATCHEZ, La. (KSLA) — A Natchitoches man is dead, another is fighting for his life and two more are wounded after coming under fire then crashing their car while leaving an apartment complex in Natchez, authorities say.

The shooting and ensuing wreck occurred about 10:20 p.m. Saturday (March 2) in the 200 block of Louisiana Highway 119.

Fatally shot was 19-year-old Cameron D. Jackson. He was taken to a regional trauma center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

EMS also took a 23-year-old and an 18-year-old to the hospital. The 23-year-old’s wounds were described as life-threatening.

A 21-year-old was taken by private vehicle to a regional trauma center with injuries that are not life-threatening injuries, authorities say.

Natchitoches sheriff’s deputies, who are in the preliminary stages of their investigation, have learned that the three gunshot victims and another passenger were leaving the apartment complex in a 2010 Lincoln MKZ when at least one person opened fire on the car. This caused the vehicle to cross over LA 119 and crash into a ditch.

“The suspect(s) apparently fled the scene with no apparent witnesses at the time of the shooting,” the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office reports.

Detectives, who brought in special crime scene lighting equipment to photograph and process the crime scene until after 3:15 a.m. Sunday (March 3), collected more than 60 bullet casings at the crime scene.

Authorities ask anyone with any information or video of the shooting to call the NPSO Criminal Investigations Bureau at 318-357-7830 or Natchitoches CrimeStoppers at 318-238-2388 or inbox the Sheriff’s Office’s social media page. You may be eligible for a reward.
