NATCHEZ, La. -- One man is dead and three others were injured in a shooting Saturday night at an apartment complex in Natchez, Sheriff Stuart Wright said Sunday in a news release.

Cameron D. Jackson, 19, of Natchitoches was taken from the scene to a hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. A 23-year-old is being treated for life-threatening injuries. Two others -- an 18-year-old and 21-year-old -- both from Natchitoches, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Natchitoches Parish sheriff's deputies responded to a shots fired call just before 10:30 p.m. in the 200 block of state Highway 119 in Natchez. They were also told a vehicle was in the ditch near the complex.

Deputies described the scene as "chaotic" as they were surrounded by a crowd of bystanders as they attempted to identify and assist the victims.

Two of the injured were still inside the vehicle.

Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS units were dispatched, along with additional law enforcement officers, including five sheriff's detectives, the NPSO High-Tech Unit, Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force and Louisiana State Police.

Detectives are still in the early stages of their investigation but so far they've learned three of the victims and a fourth person were in a 2010 Lincoln MKZ and were leaving the apartment complex when one or more people opened fire on them. That caused the driver to crash the vehicle across the highway.

The gunmen ran from the scene and there are no apparent witnesses.

Detectives were on the scene until after 3:15 a.m. Sunday. They collected over 60 bullet casings.

Detectives ask anyone with information or video of the shooting incident to contact the NPSO Criminal Investigations Bureau at 318-357-7830, Natchitoches Crime Stoppers at 318-238-2388 or inbox the NPSO social media page. You may be eligible for a reward.
