Projects on I-90 in Austin

AUSTIN, Minn. - Several bridges in Austin are getting revamped starting in just a few weeks.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is holding an informational meeting on March 27, where people can learn more about the improvements being made to bridges and interchanges on Interstate 90.

There will be six sites that will be replaced or repaired. Construction is set to begin in mid-April and finish by the fall of 2026 for all of these projects.

Starting this year- a new bridge will be constructed on Oakland Ave, as well as a new interchange on 4th street.

Looking ahead to 2026- two bridges will be replaced at each ramp intersection on 14th street and the 21st st bridge and south ramps will be reconstructed.

The meeting is happening at Austin Public Library from 5:00- 7:00 pm.

MnDOT Communications director Mike Dougherty tells us what attendees were concerned about.

Dougherty says, "they are able to come and point out, I live here, I work here and we can show them through a map, how they can do it, what the offical detours are. Usually, it's how do I get around, how do I get to church or school."

If you were unable to attend here is a link to review the information and displays from the session: https://www.dot.state.mn.us/d6/projects/i90-austin-bridge-replacements/index.html
