Sanford Park will open to the public on April 1

Sanford Park is reopening Monday nearly four years after flooding from the Edenville Dam disaster wiped it out.

SANFORD, Mich. (WJRT) - Nearly four years following the dam failures and the floods of 2020, Sanford Park will reopen on April 1, followed by a grand opening on May 4.

Sanford Village President Dolores Porte posted on the Sanford Strong Facebook page that the park will soon be open.

On April 1, the park will open the gates to the public. Porte says there are many amenities at the park, including basketball courts, playgrounds, ball fields, pavilions, horseshoe pits and fishing.

Some of the area is still closed to the public. Some of the areas roped off are to protect newly seeded areas and closed for parking and access near the dam due to construction activities in that vicinity.

Visitors to the park should approach from Saginaw Road to Center Street.

Porte adds that more details regarding the grand opening ceremony will be made soon.
