A giant, inflatable colon will be in the Killeen hospital’s parking lot on Friday as part of a health fair open to the public, according to hospital officials.
March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and AdventHealth-Central Texas will host a gastrointestinal health fair Friday to bring awareness and answer questions from the public.
The fair is free and will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the hospital at 2201 S. Clear Creek Road.
It will feature a demonstration which includes an inflatable colon exhibit that explores different colorectal abnormalities and educates participants on the importance of early detection and prevention, according to a news release from AdventHealth-Central Texas
Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in both men and women in the United States. However, when detected early, colon cancer is highly treatable, making awareness and prevention crucial, according to the release.
Dr. Vani Paleti, a gastroenterologist at AdventHealth-Central Texas, emphasized the importance of regular screenings and early detection in preventing colon cancer.
“Colon cancer is a preventable disease, and regular screenings can save lives. It is important for individuals to be aware of the risk factors and symptoms of colon cancer, and to speak with their healthcare provider about screening options,” Paleti said.
The fair will also offer information on healthy lifestyle choices, risk factors for colon cancer, and resources for those affected by the disease.
