BELOIT — Authorities say a carjacking suspect is dead after leading Illinois and Beloit police on a pursuit Saturday morning that ended when the suspect rammed a vehicle into a squad car in Beloit and a Roscoe, Illinois, officer shot the suspect.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation reported in a statement that shortly before 9:30 a.m., the suspect fled Illinois law enforcement north into Beloit, where Beloit police assisted in the vehicle pursuit.
Officers attempted a maneuver to stop the vehicle, but the subject rammed their vehicle into a Roscoe officer’s squad car, the DCI said. A Roscoe police officer fired, striking the subject. Life-saving measures were performed, and the subject was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.
A Roscoe police officer was taken to an Illinois hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.

Both Beloit and Roscoe officers were wearing body cameras during the incident. The DCI is leading the investigation, assisted by the Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office, Beloit Fire Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin State Crime Lab, a DCI crime response specialist and members of DCI’s Digital Evidence Unit.
All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating, the DCI said.
The DCI said it will turn over investigative reports to the Rock County district attorney when the investigation concludes.
City of Beloit spokesperson Sarah Lock said in a statement that no shots were fired by Beloit police.
Lock said the Winnebago (Illinois) County Sheriff’s Office in a statement on behalf of the South Beloit Police Department and Roscoe Police Department reported that there was an officer-involved shooting about 9:10 a.m. Saturday during a traffic stop involving a South Beloit officer on Highway 251 north of Prairie Hill Road in Illinois.
That traffic stop preceded the second officer-involved shooting in Wisconsin reported by DCI, Lock said.
