HARWINTON, CT (WFSB) - A man from Farmington suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash that happened in Harwinton on Sunday afternoon.

State police said they responded to the crash on Litchfield Road at 4:50 p.m.

Three people were transported to hospitals, one by the Lifestar emergency helicopter.

The Harwinton Volunteer Fire Department said Litchfield Road was closed between North Road and the light at Route 118.

According to state police, the Farmington man was headed west on Route 4 in a Hyundai Tucson when he tried to pass a vehicle.

As a result, troopers said he struck a second vehicle, the driver of which had been heading eastbound.

The Tucson driver went off the roadway and struck a tree, state police said. They described his injuries as life-threatening.

The people who were in the other two vehicles suffered minor injuries.
