Loud booms heard as drug warrants served in Butte

Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff Ed Lester says Joseph Mullaney was arrested early Wednesday morning after search and arrest warrants were served on the 700 block of South Main Street.

Lester says distraction devices were deployed and a loudspeaker was used during the warrant service, leading to loud booms and verbal commands being heard throughout the neighborhood.

Mullaney was taken into custody on state and federal drug warrants, and no one was injured.

There is no ongoing danger to the public.

Local, state and federal officials cooperated on the serving of the warrants, and more information will be released when available.

Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Media Release

March 27th, 2024

Early this morning, search and arrest warrants were served in the 700 block of South Main Street in Butte.

The warrants were served by agents of the Southwest Montana Drug Task Force, Montana Division of Criminal Investigation, and Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement.

Three distraction devices were deployed and a loudspeaker was used during the warrant service. These devices caused the loud booms and verbal commands heard throughout the neighborhood.

One adult male was taken into custody on state and federal drug warrants.

No one was injured during the warrant service. There is no ongoing danger to the public.
