EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - Tuesday marked the start of drive-thru voting and so far it hasn't been as busy as previous years.
The City of Eau Claire opened its parking lot at 9 a.m. for voters to cast absentee ballots for the upcoming spring election. Throughout the day, the election site served 95 people.

Compared to the previous spring election during a presidential year, numbers were lower than the 168 voters in 2020. However, that was when the COVID-19 pandemic was in its early stages.
Deputy city clerk Rebecca Draeger said the slow speed is good, especially in a presidential year.
"Most of our election inspectors that are working here in drive-thru will start at 8:30 a.m. and just work a half day, so it's shorter, they get to get their toes wet a little bit and get ready for election day."
Draeger expects drive-thru voting will pick up when March 29, the last day, draws near.
So far the City of Eau Claire has sent out roughly 2,300 absentee ballots for the spring election.
In 2020, the total number of ballots sent out was over 10,000.
Drive-thru voting in Eau Claire will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until March 29.
