New Albany About Us

The New Albany Gazette, founded in 1889, has been the dominant source for news, sports and other information about New Albany and Union County, Miss., for more than a century.

Through the years, ownership of the Gazette passed through a number of individuals and families before being purchased in 2013 by Journal, Inc., of Tupelo. The Gazette was purchased from Landmark Community Newspapers of Shelbyville, Ky., which bought it in 1979 from William Rutledge III, a New Albany lawyer. The Gazette moved into its current building at 713 Carter Ave., New Albany, in 1974.

Gazette publications reach every household in Union County by mail each week. The newspaper is published on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Gazette Guide, an advertising-only publication, is mailed on Wednesdays. The online address is newalbanygazette.com.

The Gazette strives to live up to its motto, “To build community and improve the quality of life in Union County,” and, in 2010, was named the best non-daily newspaper in its size category by the Mississippi Press Association.

New Albany Publishing Co., which publishes the Gazette in print and online, also publishes Explore magazine, an annual tourism publication; New Albany magazine, a local city magazine; Union County Home & Garden Magazine, an annual spring magazine; Mississippi Homes, a monthly real estate guide, and The Advertiser, a classified advertising product sold in 11 Mississippi counties.
