Woman walking on freeway in San Ysidro struck and killed, driver kept going
The fatal crash happened just after midnight Saturday on SR-905, the California Highway Patrol said
A woman walking on a freeway in San Ysidro was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday, the California Highway Patrol said.
The fatal collision happened a few minutes after midnight on westbound state Route 905, CHP Officer Salvador Castro said.
The initial investigation indicates she was walking in traffic lanes when she was struck by “an unknown vehicle,” Castro said. The vehicle kept going. The woman died at the scene.
Officers temporarily shut down all westbound lanes of SR-905 east of Beyer Boulevard to investigate.
It’s not clear why the woman was on the freeway. Castro said the cause and sequence of events is under investigation.
Castro asked anyone who witnessed the crash or who has information about it to contact the CHP’s San Diego-area office at (858) 293-6000.
