HOLDEN, Maine (WABI) - April 8, is getting closer as Maine prepares for the total solar eclipse.

If you’re still looking for a watch party, look no further than the Maine Audubon Center.

“In acknowledgment of that, we are having two eclipse watch parties,” said David Lamon, director of northern programs and operations. “One here at the Field’s Pond Center which is just outside of Bangor, and another down at Falmouth at our Gilsland Farm Center.”

Lamon said this is the perfect event because the eclipse aligns with their everyday mission.

“Maine Audubon’s mission is focused on Maine’s wildlife, so we’re really curious about how wildlife will be reacting to the eclipse and we’re asking people to closely observe,” said Lamon.

Of course, they’ll have merchandise for sale like glasses and another feature set up for people to watch the eclipse safely.

Lamon said this is more than just an event.

It’s a time for people to embrace nature, something that’s easily taken for granted.

“Taking time to pause and notice what’s around us and doing that together in the community is really important,” said Lamon. “There’s that sense of all you have, and it seems like when you’re with other people it compels that.”

Although he’s been an outdoor enthusiast since he can remember, he’s excited to provide an opportunity for the community to come together in hopes of enlightening others about the beauty of nature.

“Getting out, experiencing nature, knowing more about what’s around you just helps you feel more at home and gives you a deeper sense of place,” said Lamon.

The eclipse events aren’t the only events coming up.

There’s a fresh lineup of events and programs for local students for the Spring and Summer.
